DANVILLE — In the heart of rural America, nestled among the rolling hills of the Midwest, lies Danville, a town where agriculture isn't just a way of life, but a cherished tradition passed down through generations. At the forefront of this agricultural legacy stands the Danville FFA, an organization that has become synonymous with excellence, growth, and unwavering leadership.
For the past five years, the Danville FFA has actively cultivated the next generation of agricultural leaders and innovators. With its roots deeply embedded in the community, the chapter has continuously evolved, adapting to the changing landscape of agriculture while staying true to its core values.
One of the key drivers behind the success of the Danville FFA is its unwavering commitment to growth and change. Under the guidance of dedicated adviser, Jessica Lunde and the enthusiasm of its members, the chapter has expanded its reach, welcoming students from diverse backgrounds and interests, including students from New London. From traditional farming practices to urban agriculture, Danville FFA offers a myriad opportunities for its members to explore and excel in various facets of agriculture.
"Our focus has always been on providing our members with the tools, resources, and support they need to succeed," Danville FFA Advisor Jessica Lunde says. "But more than that, we strive to instill in them the values of leadership, responsibility, and community service, qualities that will serve them well beyond their years in the FFA."
Currently members have many opportunities to step outside of their comfort zone. During National FFA week the chapter will host activities to celebrate.
Monday will start a penny war among rival advisories for the chance to make the other Kiss a Pig at the end of the week on Friday. The winning advisory gets to donate the earnings from the penny war to a charity of their choosing.
On Tuesday, we have the Iowa Dairy princess coming in to talk with our elementary students about the Dairy industry and as an activity they will get to make their own Ice Cream in a bag!
On Wednesday we give back to our teaching staff with a breakfast on the go.
Thursday we host the Animal Walk through where classrooms get to sign up for slots to come and visit the many animals our members raise every year.
Ending our week on Friday, we have our Drive your Tractor to school day as well as our end of the week assembly focusing on recognizing active individuals throughout the week, providing games, and lastly bringing the entire school into our fun.
Indeed, leadership is at the core of everything the Danville FFA does. Through hands-on experiences, leadership workshops, and participation in local and state-level events, members are empowered to step into leadership roles and make a difference not only within the organization but also in their schools and communities.
"We believe that true leadership isn't just about holding a title or position; it's about taking initiative, inspiring others, and effecting positive change," Lunde says. "And that's something we strive to cultivate in every member of our chapter."
The impact of the Danville FFA extends far beyond the confines of its chapter meetings and agricultural projects. Through community outreach projects like fall cleanup and the Danville Christmas Walk, members actively engage with local families, businesses, and organizations, forging meaningful partnerships and giving back to the community that has supported them throughout the year.
"Our members understand the importance of giving back and being active participants in their community," says Lunde. "Whether it's volunteering at a local event, organizing educational workshops for aspiring young farmers, or participating in town efforts, our members are always eager to lend a helping hand."
As the Danville FFA looks to the future, its commitment to growth and leadership remains unwavering. With each passing year, the chapter continues to inspire and empower the next generation of agricultural leaders, ensuring that the legacy of excellence and service lives on for years to come.
