DANVILLE — As National FFA Week approaches, the Danville FFA Chapter’s actives display a year marked by leadership, service, and growth. The chapter, which also includes students from New London, has built a strong reputation for excellence in agriculture education and community involvement.
One of the chapter’s most notable achievements this year is the leadership of its president, Conner Hill. Hill, who has been an active member for four years, has found his passion for agriculture and leadership through FFA projects and competitions. His dedication has earned him a spot-on the ballot for Southeast District Secretary for the 2025-26 term. Hill, who aspires to become a police officer, credits FFA for helping him develop skills that will serve him in a career of service and justice.
The chapter also has been busy hosting events and participating in competitions. In November, members competed in the Iowa Pork Producers Association Swine Judging competition at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, where they evaluated cuts of pork and judged livestock. Coming up in February, they will host the South subdistrict FFA Contests, welcoming participants from across the region.
Community involvement remains a cornerstone of the chapter’s mission. Members contributed to the Danville Christmas Walk with a petting zoo on Main Street, participated in an annual fall cleanup to support their local community, and served a freewill donation breakfast at the Danville Elementary. They also hosted and organized Frights and Flicks after trick-or-treating on Halloween.
Danville FFA members have had opportunities to enhance their leadership skills through various conferences and conventions. Three members attended the Ignite, Amplify, and Transform (IAT) Conferences in Ankeny, each focusing on different aspects of personal and organizational development. Chapter Reporter Alexis Hawkins and member Chloe Fisher attended the Transform Conference, which emphasized building a legacy, while Vice President Olivia Freitag attended the Amplify Conference, which highlighted networking and leadership opportunities.
The chapter also made a strong showing at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, where members participated in workshops, volunteer activities, and agricultural tours. Highlights included visiting Ozark Fisheries Hatchery, volunteering with Random Acts of Flowers, and exploring Claiborne Farms, home to famous racehorses like Secretariat.
Academically, Danville FFA members continue to excel, with 21 students making the A and B honor rolls in the second quarter of the school year.
With a year full of accomplishments and new experiences, the Danville FFA Chapter remains dedicated to developing future leaders in agriculture and beyond. As they celebrate National FFA Week, members look forward to continuing their tradition of excellence and service to their community.
