MT. PLEASANT — High school and middle school show choir students gave their all on stage as hundreds of students, parents, fans, and music enthusiasts piled into Mt. Pleasant High School for the 30th Annual InMotion Show Choir Invitational throughout the day Saturday.
Over 13 hours, these show choirs sang, danced, and entertained their hearts out in front of a gymnasium filled with spectators and judges to earn top placements.
While each group gave their all, only six received placements at the evening ceremony:
Overall Winner: Davenport Central, Central Singers Inc.
Davenport Central’s Varsity Show Choir’s performance included Love from the Other Side with a solo from Kayla Bernauer, Lions Inside with a solo from Jack Stremlow, Ordinary Day with a solo from Baylee Parker, Easy like That with a solo from Hollis IntVeld, For Real with a solo from Mia Roldan, and New Electricity with solos from Emily Winn and Micah Roldan.

They also received an additional award for Outstanding Soloist for Javean Davis’ performance in Toxic/Crazy.

Third runner-up: Cedar Rapids Xavier, Xhilaration
Xhilaration’s third runner-up placement came from their excellent performance of Centuries/We Are Legends with a solo from Davis Robe, Next Level, Tell Your Heart to Beat Again with solo from Evie Kunz, What You Won’t Forget with solos from Nicole Pederson and Miranda Nolte, and Let’s Do This/Can’t Slow Me Down with a solo from Bryant Norris.
Fourth runner-up: West Branch, Christopher Jive and the Uptown 45
West Branch’s Christopher Jive and the Uptown 45 gave an eclectic performance dressed in Pirate costumes as they sang Don’t Back Down with solos from Maddie Reed and Nate Hills, Shiver My Timbers with solos from Eli Farmer, Diego Carrillo, Miley Shields, Robby Boaz, and Caleb Pedersen, Sail Me Away, Wellerman/Bad Reputation/It’s Goin’ Down with solos from Nolan Staker and Nina Torkelsons, and Pirates of Dance/What Ya Gonna Do.
Not only did West Branch’s show choir ready to embody the character of pirates as they sang and dance on stage, but they also brought all the props with them to do so. With a large banner behind the, a plank, a treasure chest, and stocks, it’s no wonder that Christopher Jive and the Uptown 45 also nabbed an award for the Best Crew alongside their fourth runner-up finish.
Additionally, West Branch walked away from the invitational with a first place finish for the Mixed Division Tier III in the daytime awards.
Fifth runner-up: Davenport Central, Blue Vibrations
Blue Vibrations also snagged first place in the Prep Division for daytime awards before heading into the evening performances to land their fifth runner-up placement.
Both Davenport Central not only nabbed two of the top placements at the invitational, but they also secured Best Vocals, Best Choreography, Best Band, and Outstanding Soloist (Baylee Parker) all while being each other’s biggest supporters.
As Blue Vibrations took to the stage to perform I Love My Radio/Play, Fast Forward/Time Machine Pause, Don’t Stop/Stop, and Turn the Radio Up Medley, the Central Singers Inc. sat front and center filling not only seats, but floor space as well.
The Central Singers Inc. crew show school spirit just as inspiring as any student pep section at any sporting event as they performed chants and cheers in anticipation of Blue Vibrations taking the stage. It didn’t stop there, though.
As Blue Vibrations came to the conclusion of their performance, they encouraged the audience to dance with them and the Central Singers Inc. members didn’t hesitate to oblige as they jumped up from their seats, threw their arms in the air, and moved their feet.
When Blue Vibrations won their placement, all the Davenport Central students cheered. As the Central Singers, Inc. won the totality of the invitational and additional award after award, again every Davenport Central student cheered.
Middle School winners at the invitational included the following:
First Place Pelladrenaline, Pella Middle School
Second Place Illusions, Benton Community Middle School
Third Place Fortissimo, Fort Madison Middle School
Fourth Place Showstoppers, Keokuk Middle School
While Mt. Pleasant’s show choirs Chain Reaction and InMotion did not perform to compete due to hosting the invitational, they did perform exhibitions before each awards ceremony.
InMotion’s performance included Take on the World with solos from Summer Schroeder and Tien Nguyen, The Shadow in the Spotlight with solos from Addison Peck and Andi Scott, Uphill with a solo from Bryton Weir, Tell Me Your Little Secrets with solos from Abbey Perry and Robbie Heaton, and Under the Sun.
