MT. PLEASANT — As the weather provides nicer days, Henry County’s engineer and Roads Department will continue to maintain and improve road conditions throughout the county.
Beginning May 22, the department will start a culvert replacement project on Ash Avenue south of Hillsboro.
According to County Engineer Jake Hotchkiss, the road will close for approximately two months while crews complete the project.
As it is with most construction, however, this projected time frame remains dependent on weather conditions.
During construction, drivers should look for a posted detour which will direct them to use Highway 16, Franklin Avenue, and Salem Road instead of Ash Avenue.
The Engineer’s Office asks drivers to proceed with caution, during this time.
Additionally, the county recently awarded a contract to Iowa Bridge & Culvert, LC for Project BROS-CO44(93), another culvert project, located on Iowa Avenue near Old Highway 218.
To finish the month of April, the Engineering and Roads Department continued work on blading gravel roads, sent out trucks for rocking, replaced some entrance pipes in the southern part of the county, and completed various cold patches.
Crews also worked on removing debris from the Skunk River Bridge located on Old Highway 34.
