MT. PLEASANT — While Henry County voters’ ballots were among the first fully counted Tuesday night, Nov. 5, their heavy lean supporting Republicans Adrian Dickey and Mark Lofgren was upheld with the remainder of the unofficial counts showing both incumbents taking the win in their districts.
“I would like to thank all of Senate District 44 for supporting me throughout this election! It has been greatly appreciated and meant so much,” Dickey said Wednesday morning following the election. “In the past year, I’ve had lawsuits thrown at me, awful things done to me, and my opponent did nothing but spread lies about me. Through all of the negative rhetoric, I am proud of the positive campaign that I ran and last night voters in Senate District 44 rewarded my positive campaign by re-electing me to a third term with nearly 70% of the vote!”
Dickey will continue in his position as the representative for Senate District 44 after nabbing 68.32% of votes cast in the 2024 General Election against his Independent opponent Lisa Ossian who received 31.39% of votes cast. These totals include votes from Henry, Jefferson, Keokuk, Mahaska, and Van Buren counties.
Dickey says he is grateful for the opportunity given to him by voters to continue to “Protect What Common Sense Looks Like.”
In spite of her loss at the polls, Ossian says she was thanked by voters in Senate District 44 “for providing a choice.”
Lofgren will once again work with Dickey in the Senate as voters in Senate District 48 cast 65.68% of votes in his favor and 34.18% in favor of his Democratic opponent John Dabeet. While most percentages across counties in Senate District 48 held similar numbers, Lofgren as the closest numbers come in from both candidates’ home county of Muscatine. While Dabeet did earn 40.70% of votes cast in Muscatine County, he still fell behind Lofgren’s 59.22%. Other counties in Sentate District 48 include Henry, Louisa, and Des Moines.
“Even though tonight's results are not what we wished for, still tonight marks a significant milestone in our journey, and I am filled with gratitude for each of you who have been part of this campaign (Dabeet for Iowa Team, friends and supporters, family, wife Abeer, and our twin boys Nabeel and Anton),” Dabeet posted to his social media. “Together, we've ensured the values we stand for and the vision for Iowa's better future won't be silenced.”
