Distracted driving causes Highway 34 accident

A Mt. Pleasant woman was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for non-life-threatening injuries after distracted driving caused her to crash into another vehicle.
According to a news release, Alexis Tropeano, of Mt. Pleasant, was driving westbound on Highway 34 on Saturday, June 29. At approximately 1:30 p.m., she became distracted and failed to see the vehicle in front of her slowing down. Tropeano then struck the rear of a pickup truck hauling a dump trailer with a load of wood.
The driver of the pickup, Brian Jenkins, of Revere, Mo., reported he was not injured. Damage to the pickup and trailer was estimated at $10,000.
Tropeano was transported to the Henry County Health Center by ambulance and later to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with non-life-threatening injuries.
The 2007 Chevrolet Impala Tropeano was driving was considered totaled.
