WINFIELD — June 17, Winfield Mayor Willie Bender officially announced Dollar General’s impending arrival in the small town, and the project continues to move forward.
The previous structures on the intended location for the store are demolished, and the new building begins to take on the familiar shape of a Dollar General.
This week, Dollar General publish the first job listing for this highly anticipated addition to the Winfield community.
The first job listing of Store Manager was quickly followed by job listings for a temporary store clerk, sales associates, and an assistant store manager.
“We believe the addition of each new store provides positive economic benefits including additional access to affordable products for customers; the creation of new jobs for local residents and career development opportunities for our employees; the generation of additional tax revenue for the City; and the ability for local nonprofits, schools and libraries to apply for literacy and education grants through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation,” A Dollar General Spokesperson said of the store coming to Winfield.
A grand opening date has not been set.
“Feedback I've received from the developer is that the building should be finished with construction by the end of the year,” Bender said. “I'm not sure exactly how long it will take Dollar General to then install all their shelving, equipment, and inventory but this looks like a project that could come together fairly quickly.”
