WAYLAND — A Henry County sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop Saturday, March 8 at approximately 10:02 p.m. after observing a vehicle fail to stop at the intersection of Dakota Avenue (North Pearl Street) and Highway 78.
The stop occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m. near the intersection of Neff Street and Washington Street in Wayland.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the driver — Anthony “Tony” Stransky, 36, of Wayland — showed signs of impairment from drugs or alcohol when pulled over near the intersection of West Neff and North Washington streets.
“I observed an approximately half-empty container of an alcoholic beverage on the floorboard next to the driver’s left foot,” Deputy Brent Roth stated in a criminal complaint filed with Iowa Courts.
Additionally, Roth stated he observed two female juveniles, ages 10 and 11, in the vehicle.
Stransky was tested for impairment and subsequently arrested for operating while under the influence, second offense, and child endangerment. Both charges are classified as aggravated misdemeanors.
He was also cited for failure to obey a stop sign, no valid driver’s license, and was issued a written warning for having an open container. The Iowa Department of Human Services was notified of the incident.
A criminal charge is only an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
