Expect detours near Winfield

MT. PLEASANT — According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, construction will close a portion of road near Winfield through the rest of the month.

Work begins this week to resurface a portion of Iowa 78 between U.S. Highway 218 and the junction of Iowa 78 and Henry County Road H-18.

During construction, mark detours will lead drivers to use Iowa 78, U.S. 218, Henry County Road H-28 (170th Street), and Oasis Avenue (see map).

While road construction work takes place along Iowa 78, access to properties will be maintained.

Iowa DOT encourages drivers to help keep everyone on the road safer.

“Drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones,” Iowa DOT encourages. “As in all work zones, you should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.”
