Fair fun begins in Henry County
First days of the fair are in full swing

MT PLEASANT — It is fair season in Henry County, and fun at the fair is in full swing.
Wednesday Kindergarten through third grade Clover Kids participants will offer their non-livestock exhibits for judging through 11 a.m.
These exhibits will range from projects on Family Consumer Sciences, Mechanics & Engineering, and Science.
The projects will remain on display throughout the fair week July 12 — 18
The farmers market is also set to take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
A Chopped Cupcake Challenge will take place at 5:30 p.m.
The Cupcake Challenge will consist of two age divisions: 12 & under and 13 & over.
Contestants check in at 5 p.m. and must bring already baked cupcakes and made frosting.
Singles or duos will work to create cupcakes that will be judged on creativity, overall visual appeal, and taste.
Kids have the opportunity to participate in the Kids Pedal Pull at the tractor headquarters at 6 p.m.
At 7:30 p.m. crowds can gather to watch the Fair Queen contest and 4-H clothing event.
To wrap up Wednesday, families can gather for an outdoor movie at dusk.
Thursday, fair fun continues.
For the dog lovers, the dog show will begin at 10 a.m. by the west end of the Wright Pavillion, followed by the 4-H Bucket Calf Interviews in the Beef Barn.
The rabbit show will begin at 1 p.m., LEGO contest judging will take place at 5 p.m., and working exhibits are set for 5:30 p.m.
Bottle animals show will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Henry County Fair attendees have the opportunity to enjoy the much anticipated Bill Riley Talent Show at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The Bill Riley Talent Show will exhibit two age categories, sprouts: ages 2 — 12 and Seniors: 13 — 21.
One qualifier from each category will advance to the Iowa State Fair.
Fair activities will continue through Monday July 18 and a full schedule of events can be found at the Henry County Iowa Fair website.
