MT. PLEASANT — While over 50 employers attended a Job Fair for IW staff and graduating students, it did not go without notice that Fairfield employers occupied many of the informational booths in Ruble Arena for the event.
While many potential employers at the event consisted of other potential higher education opportunities, Fairfield supplied a variety of options.
Some of these included Agri-Industrial Plastics Company, Cambridge Investment Research, Fairfield Community School District, Jefferson County Farm Bureau Financial Services, Maharishi International University, and Aeron Lifestyle Technology.
“I think we will end up with four or five interviews from today,” Fairfield Community School District Human Resources Manager Tracy Vance said. “I think it has been successful.”
According to Vance, the school district invited interested individuals to consider positions in teaching science, business, and work-based learning among other openings.
Employers like Fairfield CSD welcome the opportunity to find exceptional candidates they might not normally see apply to their positions.
Vance also commented that the pool of candidates from this event came with exceptional backgrounds.
“We’ve had highly educated candidates stop by,” he said. “There is on that is a doctor, even.”
These Fairfield business also offer IW staff an opportunity to stay close to the community they currently call home.
“It wouldn’t be much to commute to Fairfield,” Vance commented. “A lot of people, of course, live in Mt. Pleasant and work in Fairfield.
Aeron Lifestyle Technology, a manufacturer of air-care devices and lifestyle products, saw over a dozen interested individuals come by their table at the fair.
While a manufacturing company may not immediately appear to offer careers for those currently working in higher education, Office Manager Maxine Bigelow thought they might find some good candidates at IW.
Aeron specifically offered employment opportunities for two different types of candidates, an entry level position as assistant to brand development and a manufacturing engineer.
“We actually ran into a lady that was a chemist,” Bigelow said. “She had experience in a lot of our requirements for a manufacturing engineer.”
Jefferson County Farm Bureau Financial Services offered another variety of job opportunities as sales associates or a receptionist which will allow individuals to stay in the area.
“We’re looking to fill positions in Keosauqua and Fairfield,” Sales Associate Sam Ellefson said.
