MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant Community School District will host a Family Fun Fair Tuesday, Feb. 28 during parent teacher conferences.
From 4:30-7:30 p.m. the district invites families to the middle school for an open house style fun fair filled with activities, dinner, prizes, and community resource information.
Main Street Pizza and hot dogs will serve as a free dinner for the evening as families will enjoy crafts and minute to win it activities.
Iowa Wesleyan’s Intro to Psychology class led by Nathan Hough created many crafts and give away items for the fair.
Additionally, the students will volunteer their time running craft tables and activities.
The Family Fun Fair will host a number of informational booths from the district and community.
The district will highlight their school counselors at a station ran by middle school counselor Brianna Porter. Families will have the opportunity to grab parenting resources such as conversation starters at this stop.
High school counselor Ashlei Venghaus will offer a mini-version of the districts S.O.S Suicide Prevention presentation with take away information. 988 information also will be made available at the fair.
Event organizer and District Student and Family Advocate Martha Peterson is excited to share with the community exactly what her role is and how she can help families.
Former district tech support person Chris Johnson and current tech support person Brandon Ridinger will offer information on cybersecurity, internet and social media safety.
The school district librarian plans to host a stop at the fair in conjunction with the public library.
Community organizations such as Community Action, Amerigroup, Optimae, ADDS (Alcohol and Drug Awareness), Food Freedom, and USDA Rural Housing will offer resource information.
Families also will have the opportunity to take photos with school mascots such as Herky the Hawkeye, Wesley the Tiger, and the Mt. Pleasant Panther.
“When you arrive, we're going to have a table at the front door,” Peterson said. “Families will get a folder where they can put their resources because we do have a lot of people that are going to have handouts, flyers, brochures, we just didn't want families to have like 1000 things in their hands.”
“I have felt very supported by our community,” Peterson said.
Thanks to donations from community partners like First United Methodist Church, Walmart, and Hyvee the fun fair will offer not only free dinner but fabulous prize drawings as well.
“So we're giving them a folder and then we also will part they will get a raffle ticket for prizes,” she said.
Families will fill out the ticket and drop it in a raffle bucket before leaving the event. The district will draw and call winners after the fair.
Raffle prizes include:
A 3 months family membership to the REC Center valued at $210
Two $25 chamber
Gift cards from Press Box, Central Park Coffee Company, and Iris bowling
A panther activity card
Three family game night bundles
