MT. PLEASANT — The Fellowship Cup will host the first “Getting Ahead” class post-COVID-19.
This is a 16-week class will help participants build resources and plans for success in their futures.
Fellowship Director Ken Brown invites Henry and surrounding county residents of varying economic status to consider participating in this class.
“’I’m tired of living from pay check to pay check,’” Brown said was an example thought for a candidate for this course. “Or ‘Wow, I was in the middle class and now I am barely getting by.’”
Brown went on to talk about how many who are stuck in this cycle do not have the family or friend resources to reach out to in order to dig themselves out.
“This could lead to new opportunities and resources,” Brown said.
The program is meant to be more of a workshop than a class so that connections and a support system can be built for participants.
“They can see that they aren’t alone.” Brown said. “Others have gone through the same things and might have experiences to share.”
The program will only have 10 to 12 spaces available.
Hosted on Monday nights participants will receive a meal at 5:30 p.m. and attend class from 6-8 p.m.
To keep the class accessible all materials will be supplied and participants will be given a monetary gift at the end of each class.
Thirty-six participants have graduated from this program since 2017, and now former graduates help facilitate the course with Brown.
To express interest in being considered for the program individuals can reach out to Ken Brown Director of The Fellowship Cup at 319-385-4242 or director@thefellowshipcup.org
Brown will conduct brief interviews to ensure that each participant is given any resources necessary to be successful.
Even if you do not live pay check to pay check Brown encourages the community to get involved.
“We are asking for mentors from the community for support,” Brown said.
In Brown’s opinion our community is only as strong as the individuals that make it and this will greatly benefit the Mt. Pleasant area.
