BURLINGTON — Southeastern Community College hosted more than 150 area middle and high school students at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Science Fair at their West Burlington Campus last Thursday, March 7.
Middle and high school students displayed their science projects in the Health Professions Center and Halls of Science building to be judged in the following skills among other criteria: areas of improvement, student presentation, and displayed use.
Mt. Pleasant High School students Jacie Campbell and Briar Bender both participated in the event, and Campbell even walked away with an Inspiring Excellence Award with $25 cash.
With their background as FFA members, both Campbell and Bender focused their science projects on agricultural related studies.
Campbell presented her research in decreasing methane in dairy cattle using seaweed. Bender focused his experiment on sustainable nitrogen solutions through the exploration of alternative application methods for soybeans.
Both students were able to use skills of public speaking and research they’ve already learned through FFA to present their experiment findings in professional confident manners.
