MT. PLEASANT—Local fire departments connect with the community for Fire Prevention Week.
According to Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, firefighters visit area schools and daycares, this week, to teach fire safety, fire prevention, and what firefighters do.
Mt. Pleasant Community School District’s Harlan Elementary received a visit Monday.
Harlan students learned the importance of having a fire escape plan, listened to a real fire alarm, learned how to “stop, drop, and roll,” and saw what firefighters look like in an emergency.
In addition to visiting local youth, Mt. Pleasant Fire Department hosted an activity filled open house, Wednesday evening.
Winfield Mt. Union Community Elementary School also received a visited with firefighter friends this week.
Kindergartners visited the Winfield Fire and Rescue station, Monday, where they received a first-hand up-close look at the fire department vehicles.
Winfield Fire and Rescue will also host a soup supper as part of their National Fire Prevention Week celebrations.
Saturday, Oct. 15 5-7 p.m., the fire department will offer in-town delivery, curbside pickup, and dine-in services for a freewill donation.
The menu consists of chili or cheesy potato soup, lettuce sandwich, brownie or cookie, and a drink.
