Mt. Pleasant firefighters kicked off the Easter festivities with their first in person pancake breakfast since the advent of COVID-19.
The fire house was filled with the sounds of happy chatter resonating from the nearly full tables.
It is tradition for the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department to host their annual pancake breakfast the Saturday before Easter.
According to Chief Drew Schumacher, an average number for the breakfast is around 800 people and at 8:30 a.m., he thought they were well on track to meet that number.
This year, the funds raised will be put toward battery operated lights and vent fans.
“We like to come out every year and support them,” Adrian Rubey, father of future firefighter Landon Rubey, said.
Adrian and Kelsey made sure to attend the breakfast with their two young sons, Landon and Owen.
“It gets better and better every year,” Kelsey Rubey said.
“It was good,” Landon said in review of the pancake breakfast despite his disappointment in blueberries being missing from the menu.
To-go orders were still available and popular this year at the fire department’s biggest fundraiser.
“Talking to the community [is my favorite part],” said Schumacher.
If you missed the event this year, there is no need to worry. The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department is excited to continue this tradition for many years to come.
“It’s been pretty busy. Steady after 7,” Firefighter Joe Whalend said.
So, next year, you may want to make plans to arrive early.
