MT. PLEASANT — Fireworks season has begun, and Henry County Sheriff’s Department and the Mt. Pleasant Police Department released the following rule reminds.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, individuals may only use fireworks on their own property or property which they have already received permission to use for this purpose.
For Henry County, firework use times run from June 1 – July 8 from 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. On July 1, 2, 4, and 8 this time is extended to 11 p.m.
Within the city of Mt. Pleasant, these usage times are further restricted to June 21 – July 6 from 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. Fireworks enthusiasts may only utilize the extended curfew of 11 p.m. on July 1, 2, and 4 within city limits.
Henry County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that calling 911 is not appropriate simply because people are setting off fireworks, fireworks debris lands in your yard, fireworks are disrupting sleep, or pets are upset by the fireworks.
While it may be appropriate to call the non-emergency number (319) 385-2712 for misuse of fireworks, 911 calls should be reserved for emergencies.
