Girls snag high scores at pedal pull

MT. PLEASANT — Girls showed off their chops as they walked away with first and second placements at the Kid’s Pedal Pull contest the first night of the Henry County Fair.

In the 41—50-pound weight class, Kinnley Wagner duked it out with Benton Brown to take home first place.

“We got a pull off,” the event emcee announced after an initial pull of 30 feet 6 inches by both Wagner and Brown.

After adding weight, Brown then pulled a remarkable 30 feet 8 inches, however, the weight did not hold Wagner back either.

For her second pull, Wagner managed 31 feet to gain her victory.

According to 8-year-old Wagner, the key to success is to “push hard.”

Just one day before her birthday, newly 6-year-old Kennedy Barton took home second place in the second heat of the same class and shared how she earned her medal by listening to her mother’s advice.

“I just go fast and that's how I go faster and get through the line, that’s what my mom told me to do,” Barton said.

In the 61-70-pound class, another girl took first place with a pull distance of 31 feet 11 inches.

“You don’t stop, you don’t look back, and you just keep going,” winner 10-year-old Peninah Pidgeon said is the best way to go far in the tractor pull competitions.

Pidgeon was only out-pulled by Kanai Mason in the 71-80-pound class with 32 feet 5 inches.
