MT. PLEASANT — Henry County Habitat for Humanity brings its efforts back to Mt. Pleasant as the organization begins its work on the 31st Habitat House on East Henry Street.
According to Henry County Habitat for Humanity Coordinator Lisa Diener, the organization and volunteers will build a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home for a mother and her three children at 400 East Henry Street. This follows the completion of a similarly sized home for the group’s 30th build in Winfield this January.
Work to prepare the build site for the home has already begun thanks to assistance from Robert Smith Construction and McCoy Plumbing and Heating, but as the process continues, Habitat will rely on the continued generosity of volunteers and donors.
While volunteers do need to be at least 16 years old, skilled and unskilled volunteers are invited to come alongside the family to build their home and possibly even walk away with new learned skills.
“Anyone can help really,” Diener said. “We pair unskilled volunteers with skilled ones.”
For those interested in volunteering, but not wanting to help with the actual building, they can prepare and serve lunches and snacks on build days. Depending on weather, teams will build on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
If time is not a commodity readily available for those wanting to assist, donations are also welcome. Currently Diener is asking for donations of bottled water or Gatorade. Monetary donations can also go toward these needs. For additional information on making donations, keep a look out for the Stuff the Truck event next month.
