MT. PLEASANT — Henry County Habitat for Humanity will partner with volunteers to officially begin building the organization’s 31st home this weekend after April showers and generally unpredictable spring weather delayed the first official build last weekend.
Volunteers are invited to contact President of Henry County Habitat for Humanity Lisa Diener at (319) 931-0656 to volunteer their time, donate water or Gatorade, or provide lunch for any build day moving forward. The first build day will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at 400 East Henry Street in Mt. Pleasant. Following build days will occur Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. as weather allows.
In addition to seeking volunteers for the actual build, Henry County Habitat for Humanity invites the public to exercise their generosity muscles at the Stuff the Truck event Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Christian School parking lot.
According to Diener, the organization partners with Fairfield Habitat for Humanity Restore to raise funds that go toward building homes throughout Henry County.
“People can drop off items at the Christian school parking lot, then Restore will take it back to Fairfield and Habitat will receive 30% of sales to put back into the home,” Diener explained.
Acceptable donations for the Stuff the Truck event include the following:
Appliances
Building materials
Bathroom cabinets
Doors
Windows
Gardening tools
Household furniture
Office furniture
Outdoor furniture
Paint and supplies
Sinks
Toilets
Tiles, carpets and rugs
They will not accept broken items, electronics, empty paint containers, fluorescent ceiling lights, mattresses, bedding, and single pane windows.
