MT. PLEASANT—Halloween music created a festive atmosphere on Iowa Wesleyan campus lawn, Monday evening just before city-wide trick-or-treat.
For the first time, IW hosted a Candy Crawl. College students and community members were invited to fill their bags with sweet treats from various IW departments.
The event was put together by the university’s activity committee.
“This is something fun to get the community and university employees involved,” Human Resource Generalist and activity committee member Rooks DeRosear said.
The Marketing and Admissions team gave out candy from a cauldron dressed as Ms Frizzle, a Fruit Stripe Zebra, and Tiger from Winnie the Pooh.
Provost DeWayne Frazier brought an enthusiastic character portrayal to his astronaut costume with the Academic Affairs and Registrar’s team.
“Eat candy to get big and strong like me,” Astronaut Frazier proclaimed in a booming voice.
His coworkers and trick-or-treaters were all smiles as he continued with phrases such as, “To infinity and beyond!”
The Sanderson sisters gave out masks and stickers at the IW Online’s event table.
The first Candy Crawl started off with a trickling of children, but within a thirty minutes, the sidewalks began to fill with a mix of youngsters, their parents, and IW students.
