MT. PLEASANT — Henry County Conservation Department gets a head start on the spooky season with Halloween events planned for Oct. 3 and Oct. 7.
Tuesday, Oct. 3 the conservation department will host their annual night hike with Unmask the Monster with Scooby Doo from 6-7:30 p.m.
“Learn why there is nothing to be afraid of with Scooby and the gang!” they encourage guests.
While there is much to discover on this night hike, the conservation department assures guests that the evening will be filled with education and fun events and no actual scary monsters.
The evening will consist of a scavenger hunt style hike searching for monsters to unmask. After finding all of them, hikers are invited to head back to the nature center to receive a prize for their bravery, tour the building, and look at all the other near animals and plants that call Iowa home.
They can also snuggle up under a blanket or a law chair and watch a movie on a big screen outside.
Saturday, Oct. 7 the conservation department will continue to celebrate the Halloween season as they host trunk or treat at the campground.
Beginning at 4 p.m. trick-or-treaters can head out to snag treats from decorated campsites at Top of the Hill Campground, Waterworks, and South Shore.
For those campsites that participate, their decorations will be judged after dark for a chance at prizes for the top-rated sites.
First place will receive three free nights at the campgrounds, second will get two, and third will get one night stay.
