After a hiatus of one year, the Harlan-Lincoln House is bringing back its popular lecture series. For over twenty years, this series has featured historical topics, typically about local or Iowa history. The series will be held on Tuesdays at noon in April on the first four Tuesdays of the month at the Belle Center, the former IWU Chadwick Library, 107 West Broad Street, Mt. Pleasant.
On April 1, Paul Juhl, former Harlan-Lincoln House board member, Iowa author and historian, and recipient of the 2023 Irving Weber Award for Johnson County History will speak on “A Divine Legend: Madame Sarah Bernhardt and Rochester, Iowa.”
April 8, the speaker is Kay Weiss, former Burlington Public Library Director and current member of the Burlington City Council. Weiss will teach a beginning genealogy workshop entitled “Who Do You Come From?” Bring something to take notes.
On April 15, John Bennett, a member of the Harlan-Lincoln House board of directors and Abraham Lincoln enthusiast will present “George Miller and Trenton’s Henry County Institute of Science.”
On April 22, our final speaker is Darcy Maulsby. Known as Iowa’s storyteller, Maulsby is a journalist and historian from Lake City, Iowa. Maulsby will present “Adventures Along the Lincoln Highway in Iowa.”
All lectures are free of charge. The Harlan-Lincoln House always welcomes donations.
