The board of directors of the Harlan-Lincoln House, Inc. 101 West Broad, Mt. Pleasant held its second annual meeting Jan. 21 and elected three new directors. They are Marlene DePriest, Ted Wiley and Karol Shaffer.
Continuing directors are Tricia File, Lynn Ellsworth, Elizabeth Garrels, John Bennett, Amy Frantz, Debra Rodgers and Kimn Hassenfritz. Appreciation was expressed to retiring directors Pat White, Lea Bradley and Paul Juhl for their longtime dedicated service.
One of the responsibilities of the board of directors is to share with the public the relevant times of Sen. James Harlan and President Abraham Lincoln families.
The first event of the upcoming year features “Unconditional Surrender: A Visit with Ulysses S. Grant” by Humanities Iowa author and performer, Peter Grady. This insightful presentation will be held in Mt. Pleasant’s historic Union Block (111 W. Monroe) on Presidents Day, Feb. 17.
To accommodate attendees’ schedules, the same performance will be at noon and 6:30 p.m. As a bonus, Lincoln and Civil War collector Ethan Afshani will attend and showcase a few of his artifacts, including a tie owned by President Grant.
The Harlan-Lincoln House, Inc., P.O. Box 251, Mt. Pleasant, is a designated 501[c] (3) public charity also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
