HC to celebrate Fourth of July in style this week

Cities in Henry County will be alive with the sound of fireworks to celebrate Independence Day on Thursday, July 4.
MT. PLEASANT
Per tradition, Mt. Pleasant will be hosting Fourth of July festivities in McMillan Park. The parade begins at 5 p.m. Afterward, kids can meet their local heroes with representatives from the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and the Henry County Sheriff's Office present.
Free carousel and trolley rides will follow along with face painting and inflatables. Music will be provided by DJ Midnight Crystal. Fireworks begin at dark.
There is no charge for this event; however, donations will be accepted.
WAYLAND
The annual Fourth of July festivities in Wayland will kick off at 6:30 a.m. with a breakfast provided by the Wayland Lions Club and continue with a walk for the wetlands at 7:30 a.m. and a parade down the Mainstreet at 10:30 a.m. The day will continue with a variety of activities such as lunch at WACO High School, firefighter water games, a bags tournament, and will conclude with fireworks at dusk on the WACO High School football field. In the event of rain, fireworks will be displayed July 5. Fireworks can be set off in the City of Wayland from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. July 4 and from 5-11 p.m. June 29 and 30 and July 6 and 7.
New London, Winfield and Salem have no organized city activities; however, Salem Friends Church will be hosting a movie in the park on Friday, July 5. They will show 'The Lego Movie” at dusk. Free popcorn will be provided.
