Head-on collision kills one near New London
One fatality and one serious injury result from collision

NEW LONDON — One person died Wednesday afternoon in a two-car collision just outside New London.
As a result of a head-on collision, Norman Hirschy, 68 of Mt. Pleasant died, and Sheila Wilkerson, 57 of New London was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the Iowa State Patrol crash report states.
According to the report, at approximately 2:55 p.m., Hirschy’s pickup truck, traveling westbound, crossed the centerline near the 2500 block of 260th Street in New London. Hirschy collided with Wilkerson’s eastbound vehicle.
The report states that Wilkerson’s seat belt saved her life, but Hirschy was not wearing his.
New London Police Department, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, New London Fire Department, and Henry County’s medical examiner assisted Iowa State Patrol.
This collision comes less than two weeks after a two-fatality single-car crash just four miles away at the intersection of Highway 34 and Racine Avenue.
