Head on collision sends three to hospital
Multiple agencies respond to motor vehicle accident in Louisa County

MORNING SUN — With heavy snowfall in the area last week, emergency services received numerous reports of motor vehicle accidents, including a head on two-vehicle accident in Morning Sun.
According to a news release from Morning Sun Fire Department, they received word from dispatch at 4:07 p.m. of the accident with injuries at the intersection of Highway 78 and M Avenue. While in route, emergency crews learned the accident was actually closer to L Avenue.
“Upon arrival crews located a two-vehicle head on collision with an entrapment,” the news release stated. “Highway 78 was immediately shut down.”
Once Morning Sun Fire Department arrived, they requested assistance from Wapello Fire and Rescue as well as two Wapello ambulances.
According to Morning Sun Fire, emergency personnel responding to the call were able to extricate one victim from the vehicle, and the patient was transported to Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
Two other victims from the other vehicle where also transported to the hospital for injuries.
Assisting at the scene was the Morning Sun Fire Department, Morning Sun Ambulance, Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Wapello Fire and Rescue, Wapello Ambulance and the Iowa State Patrol. Per department policy no names or victims’ conditions will be released.
