Henry County Fair Queens prepare to compete
Four young women will compete for 2024 Henry County Fair Queen

MT. PLEASANT — After 2023 Henry County Fair Queen Kalayna Durr went on to win the 2023 Iowa State Fair Queen title, all eyes will be on Henry County this year as the contestants kick off the events at the fair at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 17 in the Wright Pavilion at McMillan Park.
Here is a look at the four young women hoping to earn the title of 2024 Henry County Fair Queen.
Julie Campbell
Julie Campbell is the daughter of Missy and Jason Campbell. Born and raised in Mt. Pleasant, Campbell is currently attending Kirkwood Community College where she is involved in Agriculture Business Club and Salt Ministry.
In high school, she participated in choir, FFA, National Honor Society, and 4-H. In her free time, Campbell enjoys baking, spending time with family, and participating in church groups.
Last year, Campbell participated in the fair queen contest and received the Miss Personality Plus title.
Her future plans involve transferring to Iowa State for an agriculture education degree and pursuing a career in teaching or as a County Youth Coordinator.
Kali Barnett
Kali Barnett is the granddaughter of Patty and John Bohrman. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and earned her associate degree from Southeastern Community College. During this time, she participated in track, softball, FFA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Chi-Omega sorority.
Barnett volunteers her time at Faith Christian Outreach Church, Cradle of Hope, the E3 Center for youth and Old Threshers.
Her future plans are to complete a bachelor’s degree at Culver Stockton College, student teach at Canton, and pursue a teaching career in Henry County.
Lily Syfert
Lily Syfert is the daughter of Jake and Angie Syfert. She is from Salem and attends New London Community High School where she is part of the basketball team, trap team, National Honor Society, Elementary Mentor Program, and book club.
In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities, reading, spending time with family and friends, and camping. Syfert’s favorite fair activities are participating in teen council, completing static projects, and camping.
Her plans after graduation include attending SCC’s early childhood education program to become a teacher.
Lysha Bunnell
Lysha Bunnell is the daughter of Rick and Cara Bunnell. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School and received an associate degree and license of practical nursing from SCC.
Bunnell is part of SCC’s Sports Shooting Team and stayed active in various activities throughout high school including band, trap, 4-H, and teen council. She spends her free time with friends and family, hunting, fishing, playing board games, reading, and watching movies.
She plans to continue her education at SCC to earn an associate degree in nursing, take her boards to become an Registered Nurse, then pursue a bachelor’s degree of science in nursing.
