MT. PLEASANT – The Henry County Farm Bureau will celebrate National Agriculture Week by hosting its third annual Supermarket Sweep competition on Friday, March 21, at the Mt. Pleasant Hy-Vee.
Local businesses are encouraged to form teams of three for a fast-paced grocery shopping challenge benefiting The Fellowship Cup. Each team will have five minutes to collect groceries, aiming to get as close as possible to a total of $250, either over or under.
Teams are invited to decorate their carts, wear matching outfits, and embrace the fun. The only cost to participate is the total amount of groceries collected.
A traveling trophy will be awarded to the winning team, along with additional honors for “Greatest Grabber” and “Best Decorated Cart.” Following the competition, participants can enjoy tea, lemonade, and cookies while winners are announced.
Last year, the Henry County Farm Bureau donated more than $1,200 worth of groceries to The Fellowship Cup through this event.
National Agriculture Week, observed March 16-22, highlights the essential contributions of agriculture to daily life and the economy. The industry provides food, fiber, renewable products, and employment, with one farmer today feeding 144 people—compared to just 25 in the 1960s.
