MT. PLEASANT — Henry County Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications for its 2025 housing program, offering a new opportunity for a local family in need of affordable housing.
The new home will be built in Mt. Pleasant, providing a simple, decent, and energy-efficient living space. Habitat for Humanity’s program is designed to help families who are ready to work hard and partner with the organization to achieve homeownership.
The homes built by Henry County Habitat for Humanity are tailored to the family’s size and needs. Once construction is complete, the home will be sold to the family with a zero-interest, 20-year mortgage. Monthly payments, which will include property taxes and homeowner’s insurance, are expected to range between $600-700.
Applicants must meet several eligibility criteria to be considered for the program. They must currently be living in substandard housing conditions, such as homes with inadequate heating or plumbing, unsafe structural issues, roofing or floors in need of repair, overcrowding, unhealthy conditions, or inoperable bathrooms or kitchens. Additionally, applicants must have a steady annual income between 30% and 75% of the area median income. This translates to an income of between $16,000 and $30,000, depending on the family’s size.
In addition to meeting income and housing requirements, applicants must be willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity by committing 300 hours of sweat equity per adult family member. This includes working alongside Habitat volunteers during the home’s construction or participating in other Habitat activities. Applicants are also required to make a 2% down payment, pay the first year’s homeowner’s insurance premium, and complete a financial literacy course.
Those interested in applying for the program can request an application by emailing Henry County Habitat for Humanity at hchhinia@yahoo.com, including their name, address, and phone number. Applications can be mailed or emailed to applicants.
Since its founding in 1993, Henry County Habitat for Humanity has built or repaired more than 50 homes in the area, providing safe and affordable housing to families. The organization is supported by volunteers, donors, and community partners who help make these homes possible. Henry County Habitat for Humanity is an equal housing lender, committed to fair and non-discriminatory practices in all aspects of its homeownership program.
