Henry County Public Health Clinic offering walk-in COVID-19 and flu vaccinations
Jan. 6, 2022 8:29 am
The Henry County Public Health Clinic is now offering walk in COVID-19 vaccinations at their clinics in Mt. Pleasant from 1-3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Thursdays, and on Jan 20, from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. The clinic is also giving out flu shots during those times.
No appointment is necessary, you can go to website www.healthyhenrycounty.org/immunizations/ to check-in online.
The CDC is updating their recommendations on when people can receive a booster shot. They have shortened the interval from six months to five months for people who received the Pfizer COVID vaccine. The booster interval recommendation for those who received the J&J Jassen and Moderna vaccines has not changed.
Additionally, the CDC is recommending that moderately or severely immunocompromised 5- to 11-year-olds receive an additional primary dose of vaccine 28 days after their second shot.
At this time, only the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is authorized and recommended for children ages 5-11. Data shows that COVID boosters help broaden and strengthen protection against Omicron and variants.
According to CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, “It is critical that we protect our children and teens from COVID-19 infection and the complications of severe disease. Today, I endorsed ACIPs vote to expand eligibility and strengthen our recommendations for booster doses. We now recommend that all adolescents aged 12-17 years should receive a booster shot five months after primary series. This booster dose will provide optimized protection against COVID-19 and the Omicron variant. I encourage all parents to keep their children up to date with CDC’s COVID-19 vaccine recommendations.”
