MT. PLEASANT — With Mt. Pleasant Schools officially releasing for summer vacation, Healthy Henry County Communities’ Stride Into Summer Family Walk kicks off the long fun-filled days of adventure.
HHCC will host the free family friendly event focused on summer health and safety June 1 from 1-4 p.m. at East Lake Park with a variety of fun activity and educational stations located in the loop around the lake.
In preparation for the event, HHCC gathered fun give away items like sun glasses, tattoos, glow sticks, and chalk
“There will be bubbles, a variety of kids games, kindness-rock painting, a healthy snack and more,” HHCC said of the event.
This week, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office sent Sheriff Rich McNamee out to shop for over 100 bike helmets to give away at the event, Sunday.
Thanks to a donation from the Walmart Distribution Center, the Sheriff’s Office also will raffle off five free bikes.
Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office will assist families in completing child identification kits which will help parents store specific identifying information about their child if a child goes missing.
According to HHCC, the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, Iowa DNR, and Henry County EMS also will have activities promoting summer safety topics.
Upon arriving at Stride Into Summer, guests should sign in at the welcome tent near the tennis courts and grab a goody bag.
In case of rain, the event will be postponed until Sunday June 11th.
