Henry County supervisors hear from department heads

Henry County Board of Supervisors met Thursday with department heads for updates.
Roger Pittsenbarger informed the board that the Veterans Affairs Office is now offering life insurance to veterans. Veterans affair office will be close April 11 and will reopen April 15.
County Assessor Nathan Milks asked Vanguard’s Bob Ehler and Allen Beck to attend the meeting and give some information on upcoming county appraisals. Beck will be appraising in the county for the next few months and is currently projected to finish ahead of schedule.
Public Health Director Shelley Van Dorin said the numbers for the second COVID-19 second booster have gone up with the population over the age of 50.
Sheriff Rich McNamee raised concerns surrounding the county deferred compensation program. He is scheduled to speak with the board further on April 14 at 10 a.m.
County Recorder Mindy Fitzgibbon reminds residents that boat registrations expire April 30. Spring turkey licenses are available. Be sure to check if your fishing license needs renewed.
Planning and Zoning Director Joseph Buffington expressed concerns of a bill which allows fireworks buildings and stands to be built with less regulation. He has requested a veto and will continue to work toward enacting safety restrictions on firework sale placements.
The meeting was brought to a close with comments on the recent county budget increases.
“[The Budget is] Not sustainable without astronomical tax increases,” said Supervisor Marc Lindeen, “What difficulties will we be facing a year from now?”
