MT. PLEASANT — Henry County Veterans Affairs Director Roger Pittensbarger announced a Veterans Day dinner at the end of the month at the Mt. Pleasant Veterans Hall.
According to Pittensbarger, the dinner will consist of pork loin, chicken, and sides at the Veterans Hall located on West Monroe Street, March 30 at 6 p.m. Retired Brigadier General Martin Graber will speak at the event focusing on Iowa’s Vietnam Veterans contributions to the ward and the community once they returned.
While the keynote speaker will focus on Vietnam Veterans, Pittensbarger says, “It’s for all veterans, not just Vietnam veterans.”
Pittensbarger and other organizers Bill Wixom, Jogn Mikelson, and Chazz Russell anticipate hundreds of people to join the dinner.
“It should be a good turnout,” Pittensbarger said.
In addition to this dinner, Pittensbarger says Henry County VA supports local veterans daily. This last month they saw an increase in calls and visits with more than 70 phone calls and 80 visits.
According to Pittensbarger, the VA continues to keep local veterans informed. This includes holding monthly breakfasts at the Moose Lodge in Mt. Pleasant. During February’s breakfast, the keynote speaker talked with veterans about the importance of filing for veteran tax credits.
