MT. PLEASANT — With Holistic Gypsiez latest move across North Jefferson Street, Sarah Gordon continues to offer holistic healing options to the Mt. Pleasant area and expresses gratitude for the healing she receives in return.
Five years after opening her business in a small shop in Salem, Gordon says they still offer much of the same merchandise such as CBD oil, smoke shop items, essential oils, candles, jewelry, crystals, worry dolls, and other holistic healing options.
“It's things that help me with what I've learned like how to use crystals and herbs and set my set intentions into them,” Gordon explained her inventory. “They all have holistic, plus metaphysical properties that can help you work on different goals.”
Before opening the Holistic Gypsiez, Gordon struggled with drug addition, and she says that many of the products she carries are things that helped her overcome that and become the woman she is today.
“CBD products were something that helped me get off a lot of medications and helped with my recovery,” Gordon said. “They were really helpful for me, so, I stayed on them, and now I offer them.”
“From my experience with them, I think that they help a lot of people,” she said. “I’m not a doctor, of course, but I find them very helpful if you want more natural options.”
According to Gordon, her favorite holistic tools are crystals, books, and tarot cards.
“I started years ago and then I just kind of started growing my collection again,” she said. “It’s all a self-help, and it’s been a huge tool that I use. Plus, they’re pretty.”
Because Gordon enjoys teaching her customers about all that she has learned, she arranged the new shop a little differently to encourage customers to slow down and consider what they might actually need.
In her previous location, Gordon says they had a storeroom with a table located in the back of the store.
“It was like I was running back and forth, and people would always call it like ‘The chill area,’ but I just want to be able to sit with people or sit here myself,” she said as she finished up her lunch at a small table located in the shop’s front window.
So, when she moved the shop across the street, last month, she arranged a small seating area at the front of the store.
“A lot of people get tired of watching when they come in with somebody shopping and they'll want to sit down or they're done shopping and they're with somebody so, I think it's a perfect opportunity to sit and chill,” Gordon said.
“We want you to come here to think about your purchases,” she said. “We're here to help. If you have any questions about crystals, we've all learned. We're continuing to learn everything ourselves. It’s our favorite thing, to learn.”
Gordon says when a customer comes in asking about crystals, her first step is usually to ask them to show her what they’re drawn to.
According to Gordon when a man comes in looking for a crystal as gift for a woman in his life, she usually suggests Rotanite to help with relationships and show love as she says it is very connected to the heart chakra.
Gordon even shared insight to the useful properties of Pyrite, more commonly known as Fool’s Gold.
“Pyrite is actually a good one for strength and confidence, as well,” she said. “It’s a lucky stone. So, if somebody comes in and says they need to money or a lucky stone, I will usually say Pyrite.”
Gordon and her team spend a lot of time ensuring they stock a variety of crystals and other merchandise.
“I actually bring a lot of these back from traveling,” she said as she pointed out crystals and stones brought back from trips to Colorado and Michigan.
“These ones are from the Congo, Malachite from the Congo” she said as pointed at some stones behind a glass case.
“We’re always changing things and work really hard at getting the best new inventory,” Gordon said. “We do it all ourselves so we can offer the best prices. I think that is a huge part of being in a smaller town.”
Gordon’s knowledge expands beyond crystals and CBD products.
“When I started putting the idea together for a shop, I wanted to offer things I loved, and I learned Reiki,” she said. “I learned about Shakras, and I started learning how to use all of them because my therapist at the time thought these metaphysical things would be a good idea, and I just kept diving deeper and diving deeper into learning them.”
Looking around her shop, Gordon loves that she is able to offer healing in beautiful colors surrounded by a variety of art.
“I really like doing what I do,” Gordon said with a smile across her face. “There are still days where I don't feel like coming outside, but once I get here and I get to see people and I help people … them coming in literally helps me. It just helps me with my everything, my mental health and everything.”
