Iowa Wesleyan University plans Martin Luther King Jr. celebration

Iowa Wesleyan University is conducting its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Service on Monday, Jan. 17. There will be no classes on Jan. 17 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The event will be at 7 p.m. at the IWU chapel.
This year, there will be readings from four students on their favorite quotes from Dr. King, a praise team led by student, Clayton Henriksen, a message by the speaker Abena Sankofa Imhotep, music selections by the IWU Music Program, video presentations and a closing song with Professor Donna Debose.
The special guest speaker for the event will be Abena Sankofa Imhotep, the director of the Sankofa Literary and Empowerment Group located in Des Moines. Imhotep is a writer, public speaker and active advocate with more than a decade of experience educating on cultural competency and cultivating authentic community inclusion.
