MT. PLEASANT — Five schools in the Mt. Pleasant Community School District will host book fairs during Parent/Teacher Conference week, and the community is invited.
According to Mt. Pleasant Middle School Media Center Librarian Lisa Carrasco, the district has a goal to purchase 2,000 non-fiction books at the fair, and community participation and donations could make an impact on reaching that goal.
Harlan Elementary school’s book fair hours begin at 8:30 a.m. daily and end Monday, Oct. 31 and Tuesday Nov. 1 at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 4 at noon.
Salem, Van Allen, and Lincoln Elementary Schools’ book fairs are open Thursday, Nov. 3 2-8 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 4 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
Mt. Pleasant Middle School’s book fair hours are the same as Salem, Van Allen, and Lincoln.
In the past, Scholastic Book Fairs were only available in person, or through the colorful order catalogs sent home in backpacks.
They have expanded significantly since today’s parents were in school.
Now, the book fairs are also easily accessible online at bookfairs.scholastic.com
With the shop online option, shoppers can enjoy an expanded selection and book-only orders over $25 ship home for free.
All sales at the Scholastic Book Fairs will generate a 25% donation from Scholastic in rewards to the schools when you shop online during the Fair
Additionally, students no longer need to keep track of checks or cash for the book fair.
Yes, cash, credit cards, and checks are all acceptable forms of payment, but many schools now use the ewallet option.
According to Scholastic’s website, ewallets can be set up for students and teachers before the fair.
These ewallets can then be used to shop in person or online, and any remaining funds will be transferred to a gift card to shop with online or to fund future ewallets.
Another perk to the ewallet is how easy it is for others to add funds.
Parents and students can share their ewallets for grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends to contribute.
Community members can also contribute to teacher ewallets so they can fill their classrooms with additional literature.
Simply ask your favorite teacher for the ewallet information.
All Mt. Pleasant Community School District book fair participating schools welcome donations.
For additional information on how to donate, contact your preferred school directly.
Every sale benefits MPCSD schools thanks to Scholastic’s rewards program.

Book fairs during conferences are staples in local schools. They provide additional funds for classroom books and create an excited energy throughout the schools. Mt. Pleasant has hosted book fairs annually for years. Here, Salem Elementary students shopped the annual book fair, in 2019. (Photo Submitted)
