WINFIELD — Nearly three years after an initial meeting with salesperson from Boland Recreation to discuss options to replace the equipment at Winfield City Park, the project has finally come to fruition.
Playground committee member and driving force in the project Jennifer (Wade) Lemke could hardly contain her excitement as she shared photos of the completed park last week.
“The pride I feel for our town and the heart put into this project, well, let's just say the tears are flowing as I share these pictures with you,” Lemke said.
As a day care provider in Winfield, creating a park with updated equipment to better serve the community was extra important to her. Now, thanks to grants, donations, and budgeting, the Winfield City Park is ready for the next generation to swing, slide, and skip their way to new memories.
“It’s been a long time coming,” Lemke said.
The new park offers all the basics of playground equipment, swings, slides, and plenty of things to climb. Additionally, there is now a Mommy and Me swing and a handicap accessible swing. Other new elements include pretend play spaces and a modern merry-go-round.
Even with the updates, Lemke says she hopes maintaining the gazebo and benches that were already in the park will attract even more families to use this space.
