MT. PLEASANT — Despite a warm week, a large crowd showed up Thursday night, June 20 for the return of Main Street Mt. Pleasant’s Ag Music on Main event to enjoy lively music, cold drinks, and all things agriculture.
Some of the youngest attendees to Ag Music on Main kept the night fun. While the band, Linc Henriksen and the Drifters played music, a youngster rode up with an adult on a tractor and found himself a special seat to watch the performance. He sat on the tractor parked just behind the band and showed off his best dance moves as the driver informed the crowd that one of the young tractor-enthusiasts may have taken a set of keys from one of the pieces of farm equipment.
“Please check your children for tractor keys,” he asked the crowd.
Children attending the event continued to keep the night interesting as they found their own way to keep cool in the 90-degree heat of Thursday evening when the shade of the large trees in the park did not satisfy their need to cool down. Somewhere between making off with tractor keys, trying their best at the kids’ tractor pull, bouncing around in bounce houses, and visiting the miniature cows from Anderson Ranch Minis, many of the children at Ag Music on Main opted to take a dip in the Central Park fountain.
With screams of joy, the children, without hesitation, fully climbed into the fountain. Fully clothed and some donning foam hats from Henry County Farm Bureau, the kids ran through the spraying water, directed the streams at others, and found a lighthearted way to keep cool.
While the fountain was a huge hit for children at the event, many enjoyed simply setting up their camping chairs in the park and actually listening to the country music performed by Linc Henriksen and the Drifters as they enjoyed cold beverages. One guest, Carolyn Byron, even left the event as the winner of Henry County Farm Bureau’s prize drawing.
Byron nabbed a prize containing general admission tickets for a day of choice to the Iowa State Fair, tickets to Ye Old Mill, and a bucket of Barksdale State Fair Cookies according to Henry County Cattleman President Adam Smith.
Those filling Central Park in downtown Mt. Pleasant celebrated agriculture in a multitude of other ways including buying all the food the Henry County Cattlemen and Pork Producers had to sell for dinner.
Guests to the event also perused the tractor show on South Main Street before casting their votes for the People’s Choice. Ethan McGowan walked away with that honor of People’s Choice from the tractor show and Roger Krogmeyer earned the Best of Show.
