NEW LONDON — Shoes littered the sidewalk in the back lawn HJ Nugen Public Library’s lawn as crowd of approximately 100 people cooled down with a “Foam Blaster Party” Tuesday.
Children’s laughter, Disney music, and joyful chaos could be heard well before laying eyes on the memory-making event.
HJ Nugen Library has made it a goal to keep kids engaged over the summer with various activities like an investigation into owls, teen escape room, toddler tent story time, and many others.
Taelor Donnolly was excited for this particular activity.
“I was hoping it would bring a big crowd, and it sure did,” she said with a wide grin as she watched over the crowd of children running, jumping, and laughing in a pool of bubbly foam. “I’m already hoping to bring it back next year.”
Donnolly heard of the foam parties while attending the State Library Performer’s Showcase.
“It’s good,” Jersey Donnolly said with two thumbs-up before jumping back into the growing valley of foam.
“It’s pretty cool and I am getting soaked,” 12-year-old Miracle Weathers said.
Miracle and Shirley Ward then held hands as they submerged themselves back into the bubbly mess.
“It’s very soapy,” Allie Wagner said from the middle of the pool of foam that had built over the first half hour of the activity.
“Whenever he goes right at you, it goes in your face, and one time I inhaled it,” Allie’s sister Avery Wagner said through a fit of laughter.
Avery does not recommend inhaling the foam and took it upon herself to test if it had a taste. According to Avery, it was, indeed, tasteless.
Mason Nichols, from Burlington, came to the event with a friend.
“I’m sleeping over at a friend’s house,” he said. “His mom showed us a picture of this, and it is exactly like the picture! It’s a lot of fun!”
Parents watched from a distance with smiles on their faces as the kids threw beach balls, rolled down the hill, hid in the bubbles, and made memories to last for years to come.
