MT. PLEASANT — On Sunday, Sept. 22, at approximately 3:25 a.m., the Henry County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a single vehicle collision near mile marker 231 on Highway 34 outside of Mt. Pleasant. Responding units arrived and observed a 2005 Ford Escape with significant damage to be blocking the outside lane of west bound Highway 34.
An investigation was initiated and determined the Escape was being driven west bound by Brady McWhirter, 18 of Libertyville, when the vehicle left the roadway, entered the median, and struck a guardrail. The impact then directed the vehicle to the outside lane of the roadway where it came to rest.
No injuries were reported, and the vehicle was deemed a total loss due to the damage. McWhirter was cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle and for failure to prove security against liability. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
