Henry County Libraries host summer programming for communities

MT. PLEASANT — Summer time means swimming pools, ice cream, campfires, and friends.
It also means reading programs at the public libraries with activities far beyond simply reading books.
Mt. Pleasant Public Library
Registration for summer reading programs begins May 31 with activities starting the following week.
Children are invited to sign up for the Reading Beyond the Beaten Path program where they will log their reading and turn those logs in for small prizes and to be entered into a grand prize drawing.
Mondays at 10 a.m. there will be crafting activities.
Tuesdays at 1 p.m. Teens in grades sixth through twelfth are invited to hang out at the library, and at 6 p.m. the library will host Family Nights with varied activities.
Wednesdays activities will take place at 10:30 a.m. at East Lake Park, however, June 15 a Magician will perform at the library at 1 p.m. instead of the usual East Lake Park activity.
Thursdays STEM activities are available at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Fridays, the senior coffee time will continue at 10 a.m. as it does throughout the year.

The Author of Nevermind the Monkey Mind Denis McCormick reading on June 23.
Henry County Iowa State University Extension office invites students to discover more about Insects at the library June 28.
June 30 Author and Vet Dr. Ninja reads at the library.
July 15 kids will run and play at East Lake Park as the library hosts a Mega Foam Blaster event.
Yes, that is an event where large amounts of foam will be blast in the park for kids of all ages to enjoy.
Activities will run for June and July.
Crew Public Library, Salem
Crew Public Library will hold a summer reading program.
They encourage families to check their Facebook page frequently for additional information to sign up and participate.
Henry Count Iowa State Extension Office will host Fishy Science and Geology programming June 22 and 29 from 1-4 p.m. for elementary aged children.

Winfield Public Library

Wednesdays throughout June and July Winfield Public Library will host summer reading programs for children age three to twelve.
The programming schedule is as follows:
10:30-11 a.m. Three to five year olds are invited to the library for programming.
1-2 p.m. Six through eight year olds are invited to the library for programming.
2:30-3:30 p.m. Nine to twelve year olds are invited to the library for programming.

HJ Nugen Public Library, New London
New London’s HJ Public Library will hold a summer reading program as well.
Stop in to sign up anytime this summer.
Track your reading over the summer and return logs at the end of the program for prizes and an end of program party.
As participants meet goals they win prizes and brag tags throughout the summer reading program.
Every other Saturday the library will host Tyke Time including June 4 at 9:30 a.m. before they officially open.
The story will be selected for infants up to school-age children.
Tyke Time will include rhymes, songs, book reading, and play time with variety weekly.
Adults must be present and participate for the 15 to 30 minute Tyke Time programming.
Tuesday afternoons and evenings will have various programming which can be seen on the HJ Nugen Public Library website.
