MT. PLEASANT — Throughout the summer many families spend time at their local libraries participating in the seasonal tradition of the summer reading program. Mt. Pleasant Public Library’s Children’s Department steps up to the occasion as they welcome these families.
Throughout the month of June, the Children's Department hosted multiple events to engage children of all ages including, welcoming cartoonist Tim Read to share his talents.
Gathering upstairs in the Civic Center meeting room, where Mt. Pleasant City Council usually meets, Read shared with children his creativity as he encouraged them to tap into their own.
Another day, this past month, children gathered in the activity area of the Children’s Department for a day of reading with worms.
Magician Mikayla Oz even stopped by one day to show of some of her slight of hand.
While June was filled with moments like tallest tower contests, bean bind, straw rockets, and family night, Mt. Pleasant Public Library is not done with their summer programing yet.
The Children’s Department will offer the following summer events this July:
July 11 at 10 a.m. Henry County Conservation will present a session all about owls.
July 12 at 1 p.m. Musician Duke Otherwise will perform in the Civic Center meeting room upstairs.
July 19 at 1 p.m. also in the Civic Center meeting room, Brent Allan will entertain families as part of the program’s magic, comedy and puppets section.
July 25 at 10 a.m. Henry County Conversation will present a session all about snakes.
July 31 at 1 p.m. Grout Museum will bring Mad Mixture Science to the Civic Center meeting room.
