MT. PLEASANT — Midwest Old Threshers Reunion hosted award-winning-duo Maddie and Tae Saturday night, despite the weather.
Shortly after Maddie and Tae took the stage for an eager crowd, their music was cut short by an announcement that the concert would be delayed due to lightning which caused safety concerns.
Many took to the beer vendor located under the grandstands for shelter from the elements as they waited for the concert to restart.
The threat of lightning, wind, and storms proved insufficient to rain on the dreams of Maddie and Tae as concertgoers rejoined the duo after a 45-minute delay.
“It has always been our dream to be on stage hearing our songs sang back to us,” Maddie Front said.
The Old Threshers’ crowd helped Maddie and Tae live that dream in Mt. Pleasant.
“How does he sleep at night? Mama, the nerve of this guy,” the crowd independently sang from the 2020 song, “Die From a Broken Heart.”
The lyrics, “To leave me, so easy. Am I gonna be all right?” were clearly heard throughout the Old Threshers’ grounds.
The popular song from their album, The Way It Feels, elicited thunderous applause from the crowd to replace the previous sounds of an impending storm.
The musical guests showed gratitude for those who chose to return after the storm passed, but while lightning still lit up the sky in the distance.
“Mt. Pleasant, y’all sound absolutely incredible, tonight,” Font said. “Time is such a gift, and we want to thank you for giving us yours.”
The concert was very well-attended and reserved seating was sold out well before the day of the event.
Maddie and Tae are a popular country duo with nearly 4 million monthly Spotify listeners, numerous awards and nominations, and three completed albums.
They released their first album, Start Here, in 2015 and the second, The Way It Feels, in 2020.
Their third album, Through the Madness Vol. 2, is set to drop in late September.
