MT. PLEASANT — A Midwest Precast Concrete employee was arrested on charges of Theft in the fifth degree, a simple misdemeanor, Theft in the second degree, and Forgery, both Class D Felonies, following a multiday investigation by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
Mt. Pleasant Police Department conducted an investigation at Midwest Precast Concrete Facility after receiving reports of theft and arrested Wiliam Motta, 31 of Mt. Pleasant.
According to court documents, Midwest Precast Concrete Production Manager Matthew Moehle provided the police department with security camera footage which showed Motta entering the building at 11:42 a.m. and using a crowbar to break into a tool cabinet.
“The defendant is then seen on security camera footage taking what is believed to be a Milwaukee Impact Driver valued around $300,” a criminal complaint filed by Officer Robert Szewcyk states.
In addition to evidence of theft, Moehle provided Mt. Pleasant Police Office with still images of identification cards which include an Illinois identification card and Social Security card in the name of Jose De Jesus Garcia.
“A check of these cards verified they were not file and fraudulent,” Szewcyk reported.
Szewcyk reported that on May 29 city officers responded to these reports of theft and while meeting with Motta in Moehle’s office, Moehle entered the office holding Motta’s backpack, and unprompted by officers, opened the bag to reveal three batteries, two chargers, a box of screws, and a rebar cutter tool. The contents of the page were estimated at approximately $4,000.
Motta’s preliminary hearing is set for Friday, June 7 at 9 a.m. Motta is currently held at the Henry County Jail on a cash only bond in the amount of $10,000.
