CRAWFORDSVILLE — The communities around Crawfordsville, Cotter, Columbus City, and Winfield can rest a little easier after Louisa County Sheriff’s Office took Brian Calvin, 40 of Columbus Junction, into custody following a nine-day manhunt.
Thursday, Sept. 26 Louisa County Sheriff’s Office was unable to locate Calvin, who was suspected of domestic abuse and harassment after many hours of searching. The sheriff’s office partnered with the Columbus Junction and Winfield police departments to conduct multiple searches with a K-9 officers and drone, to no avail.
With no sight of him, the sheriff’s office encouraged those living near the location of the reported domestic abuse to lock their doors. This five-mile radius included Crawfordsville, Cotter, Columbus City, and rural properties in the area north of Winfield. WACO Elementary in Crawfordsville took extra caution to keep students inside during the initial reports of the manhunt.
According to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies took Calvin into custody in the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 5 thanks to an individual reporting seeing him near his residence in rural Columbus Junction. When deputies responded, Calvin complied and was arrested on multiple warrants.
Calvin is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault — third of subsequent offense, a Class D felony, and Harassment — first offense, an aggravated misdemeanor, in connection with the initial call for service. He is currently held on $2500 cash bond with a preliminary hearing set for Oct. 16.
The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office thanked the public for their assistance in locating Calvin via a post on Facebook Saturday morning.
