Maple syrup program in March
N/A
Feb. 14, 2019 11:06 am
There will be a maple syrup program on March 2, from 9 to 12 p.m. at the Top of the Hill area at the Dorothy Family Maple Syrup Camp at Oakland Mills County Park (past the nature center). Demonstrations on tapping trees, how an evaporator works, and syrup tasting are part of the activities. This event is free and open to all ages. Groups are welcome.
Also, the Friends of Conservation will be making pancakes in the Oakland Mills Nature Center during the maple syrup program. It will be free-will donations with all proceeds going toward the conservation department's resident raptors. One of these birds will be on display inside the nature center during this event. All visitors are encouraged to view the other raptors in their cages in the outdoor classroom at the park. All are permanently disabled and non-releasable. Henry County Conservation cares for two barred owls, two red-tailed hawks, a rough-legged hawk, and a male kestrel (falcon). These donations help provide food and veterinary care.
These activities are weather dependent. Cancellations will be announced via KILJ or Facebook.
