When Mark Kimzey, the owner of Kimzey Funeral home, was in college he did not originally set out to be a mortician instead he was focused on becoming a music education teacher, in fact he earned a degree from Iowa Wesleyan in just that.
Except when he was in college he worked at the Weir Funeral Home which was located in the same building he owns today.
He worked there his entire time in college and once he graduated he came to the realization that he wanted to become a mortician instead of a music teacher.
According to Kimzey, “It was the closest I could get to entering the ministry without going to seminary.”
Kimzey uses his deep dedication to service in his faith to drive his passion for caring for others. Including those who come to him at the worse time in their lives.
He uses the words of Methodist leader John Wesley to drive his compassion and his words are the major tenants of his life.
““Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can,” Wesley said.
Not to mention Kimzey has been serving in the community as a licensed mortician for more than 35 years.
