WAYLAND — It’s that time of year again, when teachers, students and families prepare for a new school year. With that, WACO welcomes Jodi Ebert as a new third grade teacher to their district.
A former title reading and math teacher of 12 years, Ebert is excited to try new things as she enters this new adventure in third grade.
Before coming to WACO, Ebert spent 13 years at the same school between her interventionist position and one year teaching fifth grade.
As she starts this new position Ebert intends to implement her goal of making sure each child with which she interacts feels supported and respected by her both socially and academically.
“I think the most important part of my position is building relationships with the students,” Ebert said. “By doing this, we can create a strong foundation that supports all of the other components of school.”
Ebert studied at the University of North Iowa and grew up just down the road in Washington.
“I always knew I wanted to be a teacher growing up, and here I am,” Ebert said.
Even teaching young students in third grade, Ebert encourages her students to find their passions like she did.
“Find your passion and do what you love,” she said. “Know that your passion can change as you grow and that is OK! You don’t have to be the same person your whole life. “
When she isn’t teaching, Ebert likes to spend as much time as she can doing things with her family and friends.
“Some highlights are going swimming, attending Farmers Market, playing at parks, the Washington County Fair, and the State Fair,” she said.
She also enjoys watching track and field and listening to her favorite band Old Dominion.
