WELLMAN — Mid-Prairie’s FFA chapter received high ratings for their participation in the Southeast District Career Development Events and Convention.
On March 4, six members of the chapter traveled to Muscatine High School where they competed in public speaking, chapter administrative events, and the Greenhand Test.
According to a report provided by Mid-Prairie Agriculture teacher Elsa Schmidt, students received the following awards at the convention.
Gabi Robertson will advance to state competition with her second-place gold rating of Mid-Prairie’s Reporter’s Scrapbook.
This scrapbook also will serve as a permanent record of the chapter’s history.
Brynn Younge received gold rating and is an alternate for state competition for her speech “Where's the Beef?”
Elliott Debler and Greta Sieren also received gold ratings and will serve as alternates for the state competition.
They prepared the Secretary’s Book with the minutes of the past meetings and chapter attendance.
Allie Whetstine and Brock Fisher took the Greenhand Test at the convention. Whestine received a gold rating and Fisher received a silver rating.
At the convention, Brynn Northup and Stella Janecek served as chapter voting delegates, and Marissa Cline completed her year of service as the Southeast FFA District Secretary for 2022-2023.
While Robertson will compete and some alternates might compete at the State Convention in April, six Mid-Prairie FFA members also will receive their Iowa FFA Degrees at the convention.
According to a news release from the Iowa FFA Executive Director Scott Johnson, only 5% of FFA members receiving this highest degree each year. This year, Alexa Huber, Blake Peck, Payton Peck, Gabi Robertson, Jacey Sisson and Kelyn Yoder are among that 5%.
